3-8 State Testing Information

Dear Parent or Guardian,
This spring, we will once again be administering the New York State Grades 3-8 English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics Tests and Grades 5 & 8 Science Tests. These tests will once again be administered through a computer-based program, called Questar. There will be two consecutive testing days per subject, and tests will be untimed. The computer-based testing window will be between:
Grades 3-8 English Language Art Exam:
- April 21st & April 22nd (*2 consecutive days)
Grades 3-8 Mathematics Exam:
- May 5th & May 6th (*2 consecutive days)
Grade 5 and 8 Science Exam:
- May 13th
In an effort to prepare for the computer-based testing, we are required to complete the New York State Grades 3-8 English Language Arts and Mathematics - Computer-Based Testing (CBT) Simulation. The CBT Simulations offer the opportunity for the school staff to evaluate the readiness of their school’s internal systems, hardware, and school testing procedures for the CBT. In addition, participation in the simulation prior to the testing affords teachers and students the opportunity to practice and strengthen their familiarity with Questar’s testing platform. The 40-minute CBT Simulation is scheduled for Friday, January 30th 2025.
Students and families are encouraged to preview the computer-based testing environment online at https://ny.nextera.questarai.com/tds/#practice. The New York State Question Sampler that can be accessed there also includes accommodation features for the students with disabilities, including text-to-speech.
As these assessments are a requirement, families are encouraged to plan around assessment dates, and support their child's attendance at school during the administration period. For specific assessment information, please contact your child's teacher or building principal.
